Choosing homeschooling is often a response to learners whose development is highly asynchronous, whose interests are unusually deep or complex, and whose need for autonomy, advanced thinking, or radical acceleration in areas of strength cannot be met in conventional settings. Families often arrive here not because they planned to homeschool, but because their child’s learning needs more flexibility, depth, and room to grow.
Sequoia Gifted Academy partners with families who are actively homeschooling highly gifted and profoundly gifted learners, including those who are twice-exceptional. SGA offers ongoing educational partnership that supports flexible, individualized learning while keeping long-term educational options open, as parents retain responsibility for daily instruction and curriculum decisions.
Sequoia Gifted Academy operates as a private homeschool program under California law, serving as a school of record for homeschooling families. In this role, SGA maintains required private school records while supporting individualized homeschool pathways.
Families who partner with SGA are homeschooling highly gifted and profoundly gifted learners, including learners who are twice-exceptional or significantly asynchronous.
Enrollment is available to families both within California and in other states, when participation is consistent with a family’s state homeschooling regulations.
How Partnership Works
Families partner with Sequoia Gifted Academy on an ongoing basis. This partnership is designed to provide continuity over time, rather than changing year to year, as a learner’s needs, interests, and goals evolve. While parents retain responsibility for daily instruction and curriculum decisions, SGA supports families through ongoing educational partnership grounded in extensive experience with a wide range of homeschooling approaches for highly gifted and profoundly gifted learners, including those who are twice-exceptional. This includes strategic planning, documentation support, and coordination with outside professionals such as college consultants or subject-specific mentors when appropriate.
Relational Connection and Learning Community
Learning for highly gifted and profoundly gifted learners is not only academic. Meaningful connection, shared interests, and a sense of being understood can matter just as much, particularly for learners who are asynchronous or twice-exceptional.
Sequoia Gifted Academy supports thoughtful opportunities for connection with other highly gifted learners when helpful, without forcing grouping or comparison. Relational context is approached intentionally and flexibly, in ways that support motivation, well-being, and sustained engagement with learning. When appropriate, this may include optional collaborative learning experiences such as small group projects or micro-classes built around shared interests.
Families partner with Sequoia Gifted Academy in different ways, depending on their learner’s needs and whether learning profile or assessment tools are helpful. The programs below reflect two common partnership pathways and operate on a semester basis. Program fit is discussed during inquiry to ensure support aligns with a learner’s goals and stage of development.
